Kennel assistant position available immediately at Shenandoah South Veterinary Hospital, located in southeast Baton Rouge. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic. Our ideal candidate would be a self-starter, a team player, who can handle a sometimes stressful and fast-paced environment with a caring attitude and cheerful demeanor. This position involves basic animal care of our clients' pets, mostly cats and dogs. Some of the daily tasks are as follows: feeding, walking, bathing, brushing, weighing, moving pets, restraining pets, trimming nails, giving medication, observation, and recordkeeping, cleaning kennels and runs, sweeping and mopping, laundry, disinfecting, and interacting and communicating with clients and co-workers. The kennel assistant also may assist the veterinary assistant or the doctor as needed.We abide by the golden rule at Shenandoah South, and do our very best to treat our patients as if they were our own. We have high standards and have earned the seal of approval from the American Animal Hospital Association. We would like to hire someone who is comfortable with pets of all kinds--we see mostly dogs and cats, but occasionally will see rabbits, rodents, birds, and reptiles. We perform office visits, have a drop-off service, perform same day surgery, intensive care surgery, hospitalization, boarding, baths, and daycare. With such a variety of services, and pets who must be cared for 24/7, staff is needed for days, weekends, and holidays. We rotate weekends and holidays so that our valued staff can "have a life." We also appreciate having a congenial and cooperative staff who can work out scheduling conflicts, should they occur. Training is provided, but some animal handling experience is preferred.
