BIOTECH/BIOLOGY RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS ANNOUNCEMENT -- Fall 2013The Stasis Foundation Biotechnology Research Park (Stasis Research Park)Paid Internships: Fall 2013Approximate Start date: August 26, 2013The Stasis Foundation Biotechnology Research Park (Stasis Research Park), located in Comfort, (near San Antonio), Texas, is in the process of becoming a world-class biotech facility. This fall term, the Foundation offers a unique opportunity for a 3-6 month-long paid internship program for American undergraduate & graduate students, and recent graduates from varying disciplines who are interested in learning about biotechnology, neurobiology, global health, and the social and bioethical issues in extreme life extension. During the internship, interns must reside on-site in Comfort, TX, where housing and utilities are included. You must have a car. Signing a confidentiality agreement and a contract, and a drug test are also required.There are two parts to the primary mission to the Stasis Research Park: (1) bio/biotech research, and (2) the cryostorage of biological materials. We are designing and developing cooling systems and storage devices for the cryopreservation & cryostorage of donated and bioengineered human organs for transplantation purposes; materials to support fertility; tissues for regenerative medicine; DNA, including the DNA of near-extinct species; whole mammalian organisms, including humans after legal death for whom all medical procedures have failed. The Stasis Research Park is owned and managed by the Stasis Foundation, a federally tax exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable corporation that conducts health and medical research.A collaborative team of intern students, under the direction of Architect Stephen Valentine and/or Eileen Kotchan, PhD, will work on research projects which will explore new ideas essential for their long term application in biomedicine and biotechnology, but also targeting suggested innovative solutions.Internship Research Projects for this upcoming period include:1. Investigation of the evidence of intact memory in the brain that exists after death.2. Investigation into the manufacturing/generation of liquid nitrogen, as well as the state of the art of engineering of cryogenic vessels for liquid nitrogen storage as well as the cryostorage of various biomaterials.3. Interns are also welcome to propose original ideas for an independent study project of their particular interest relating to the Foundation's mission.Note: As there are no laboratories yet on the property, all research is now literature-based.At the end of the internship, interns will submit a written report, and will submit and present a Powerpoint presentation of their internship research results.Applicant must have an automobile. Interns receive free housing and will be paid a $1200 stipend at the completion of each full month. Interns must live on the property during weekdays; and up to 2 weekends per month selected in advance by the Foundation. Interns will work regular hours, and should expect to work additional time when advisers are present to meet at their schedule.To apply, please send your (1) resume and (2) cover letter to the email address below.
