Job Description: The medical technologist reports to the Gen/Tech Supervisor and has many important responsibilities that relate directly to the daily operations of the lab. The technologist is accountable for assisting in specimen collection and processing, reagent preparation, quality control, analyzing and interpreting data, performing tests, releasing screening results, record maintenance, ordering supplies, and proper application of all laboratory policies and procedures. Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the medical technologist position will have the following skills, abilities, and experience: • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Biological, or physical science REQUIRED (Preference given to Chemistry/Biochemistry degrees) documented undergraduate research in a chemistry or biochemistry lab a plus should have at least a minor in chemistry• Willingness to perform repetitive data entry and follow specific specimen preparation procedures on a daily basis• Ability to obtain ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or CLT in the area of chemistry• (Familiarity with CAP, COLA and CLIA guidelines as it relates to a clinical lab environment)• Documented experience using HPLC and LC-MS in a clinical, industrial or research setting• Experience in an industrial setting working with analytical instruments GC, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS or ICP-MS• Documenting, organizing, and maintaining accurate records and storage of samples for easy retrieval • Basic understanding of statistics as it relates to analytical chemistry• Skill in communicating with staff and management • Thorough knowledge of laboratory procedures, SOPs, and lab supplies and equipment Basic computer literacy & MS Office (Highly proficient at MS Excel)• Extraction, cleanup, and detection methodologies (Experience with wet chemistry techniques utilized in analytical laboratories liq-liq extraction, chromatography, preparing serial dilutions)• (Understanding of westgard rules for QC)• Experience with PCR a plusMust have or be willing to attain LSBME licensure.
