LINEPERSON HELPER ELECTRIC UTILITIES A Division of Public ServicesPosition OverviewPerforms routine work involving the installation and maintenance of the City's electric utility system; provides assistance to line personnel; trims trees; maintains rights-of-way; operates various types of work equipment and tools; assists in responding to electrical emergencies; and performs other related duties.Job DutiesAssists line crew personnel in the field: Hauls and frames utility poles; sets new poles and anchors. Checks voltage and rotation readings; sets electric meters. Provides assistance in stringing conductors for new/replacement circuits or service drops. >Grounds new and replacement terminatorsConnects services at weather heads. Performs underground primary terminations. Trims trees; cuts, clears, and maintains rights-of-way; removes, chips, and hauls brush.Operates various types of equipment including line trucks, bucket trucks, digger trucks, chipper trucks, backhoes, and stand-by vehicles; utilizes hand lines, cutting/crimping tools, and insulated sticks.Works on service truck as scheduled; runs and changes out electrical services; performs after-hours service reconnections; installs new street lights.Provides assistance in responding to power outages and restoring electrical service to utility customers; inspects lines during outages and assists in determining location of power issues. Assists the Meter Department in reading electric/water meters; runs connects, disconnects, and non-payments.Miscellaneous: Completes job orders, time sheets, mileage reports, and other routine paperwork. Obtains and records transformer information.Performs other related duties as assigned or required. QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent is required.One (1) year related electrical distribution experience is required.A Class A Commercial Driver's License is required within six (6) months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.Must be able to respond to night and weekend on-call duty; with response time of 30 minutes to city limits. Starting Salary/Non-Exempt: $14.60-$15.33 per hour. The City of San Marcos offers regular non-exempt employees a great benefits package which includes vacation, paid holidays and accrued sick leave.
