Traffic Signal Technician Public Services Water/Wastewater UtilitiesPosition Overview Conducts a variety of maintenance work related to the support of the City's traffic signal controls; diagnoses and repairs system and/or equipment issues; assists in monitoring signals for regulatory compliance; may also assist with a variety of maintenance work related to the support of the City's wastewater lift stations, water production stations, pressure stations, water storage tanks, and SCADA system; and performs other related duties.Job DutiesInstalls, maintains, modifies, adjusts, test, troubleshoots, inspects, and/or repairs traffic control signals and related communication and traffic data collection systemsInspects construction methods, workmanship, and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, and maintain traffic-related equipment in Accordance with plans and specifications.Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software pertaining to traffic systems.Responds to emergency situations to assist with repair and maintenance of traffic systems.Follows applicable safety procedures when working in traffic and in areas with high voltage lines, gas lines, and water/wastewater infrastructure.Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as bucket trucks, cable locating instruments, insulation testers, grounding testers, and traffic cabinet test equipment.Assists in measuring intersections and evaluating traffic patterns and timing sequences.Assists in evaluating plans and specifications in design review.Responds to complaints to identify problems regarding traffic signal timing and assists traffic engineer in developing long term solutions.Assists in the placement of barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.This position will serve as back-up to the Water/Wastewater I&C Maintenance Tech and may assist with a variety of maintenance work related to the support of the City's wastewater lift stations, water production stations, pressure stations, water storage tanks, and SCADA system. QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent combined with two (2) years technical training in electronic maintenance and traffic controls systems.Five (5) years experience in electrical construction, electronic troubleshooting, electromechanical related work, and the maintenance/repair of traffic signals is required.Working knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Experience in network communication equipments and ITS systems.Level II Wastewater Collections, Class C Ground Water Treatment, or Class C Surface Water Treatment certifications are required within three (3) years of employment.Must possess a valid Commercial Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
