Combination Inspector Permit Center Development ServicesPosition Overview Responsible for performing inspection of homes and commercial construction for compliance with adopted building codes including: electrical, plumbing, fire and mechanical codes; as well as, city ordinances and state laws. The main goal of this position is to protect the health and safety of the community while supporting an efficient City permitting system. Job DutiesConducts Inspection of Residential & Commercial Construction Projects and Special Situations: Conducts structural field inspections of plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems for compliance with appropriate codes, regulations and approved plans/specifications. Completes water meter and interior/external backflow inspection duties. Inspects alternations and additions to existing buildings to ensure conformity with approved building codes.Tracks and maintains inspection data through InspectionAnywhere web-based system and prepare reports on complaints and violations as required.May be called out for emergency Completes Residential and Commercial Building Plan Review: Through the MyPermitNow web-based system, evaluates construction plans/specifications for compliance with city, state and federal codes, international building codes and fire code regulations. Investigates Code Enforcement Complaints and Assesses Violations:Investigates complaints and inspects existing structures to determine if unsafe or illegal conditions exist. Investigates complaints regarding non building code city ordinance violations. Through MyPermitNow Code Enforcement program, issues notices or citations to correct code violations where warranted.Testifies in court regarding violations.Participates in continuing education, professional development and building trade organizations as approved by the Chief Building Official.Miscellaneous:Assist general public regarding the processes relating to construction and code requirements. Supports and ensures the success of the building permitting process from application to certificate of occupancy issuance.Performs related duties as directed by the Chief Building Official.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. Three years directly related experience in building inspection or five years of experience in general construction or building trades including reading plans. State Plumbing Inspector License. International Code Council (ICC) certification as Residential Combination Inspector and/or Commercial Combination Inspector.Valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving recordPreferred QualificationsTwo years of college or technical training in construction, blue print reading, architecture or a related field is desirable.ICC Combination Plans Inspector certification.
