ACCESS SUPPORT WORKER POSITIONSDo you enjoy working with children and youth between the ages of 3-18 years?Are you a team player?Can you demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm?Are you self motivated? Can you meet job expectations with a smile?Access Support Workers provide one-on-one support for children and teens ages 3-18 who have disabilities. The Support Worker will be supervised by the Access and the Summer Day Camp Program Coordinators. In addition to one-on-one support, they will develop and train summer camp staff and volunteers to assist them in developing skills to manage a variety of behaviours. During the summer program they will work with children and teens and assist camp staff, volunteers, and families/caregivers to implement existing support plans to promote consistency and most importantly: help everyone have fun and make friends at summer camp.The preferred applicants will possess: experience working with children of all ages; knowledge of group characteristics and age appropriate activities; the ability to effectively provide guided choices, instructions and directions to children; the ability to encourage appropriate behavior; the ability to assess situations involving challenging individuals and behaviours; the ability to provide on-site training and guidance; and experience working with families and other professionals. The successful candidate will possess valid Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification or equivalent. A valid class 5 BC Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle is required for this position in order to travel between summer camp programs at the West Vancouver Community Centre, Ambleside, Lighthouse Park and Gleneagles Community Centre.The following experience and education would be considered an asset: experience working with children with disabilities; experience working or volunteering within a recreation setting; Special Education Training or equivalent; ECE, B.Ed. Special Education Certificate, or equivalent; and a Class 4 Driver's Licence. All applicants must be available to attend an in-person group interview during the period of April 15-17, 2013, and successful candidates must be available the following paid training sessions:June 1, 2013 West Van Community DayJune 24-25, 2013 (*Note: these dates may change) Mandatory Staff Training -- 2 days[TBA] Camp meetings / Site preparation / prep hoursJuly 2-- August 30, 2013 Camp DatesSuccessful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check. This position is supported by Canada Summer Jobs and is subject to confirmation of funding.
